What is PRP therapy?

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is an injection made from your own blood. A small sample is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which carry the growth factors your body uses to repair tissue. That concentrate is injected directly into the injured joint, tendon, or ligament to stimulate healing at the site. Because the material comes from your own body, nothing foreign is introduced.

What is prolotherapy, and how is it different from a cortisone shot?

Prolotherapy is an injection therapy that deliberately provokes the body’s natural repair response in weakened or unstable joints, ligaments, and tendons. A cortisone shot does the opposite — it suppresses inflammation to quiet pain, and repeated use can weaken the tissue over time. Prolotherapy aims to strengthen the structure rather than numb it, which is why it’s often chosen for joint instability.

What is perineural injection therapy?

Perineural injection therapy treats pain coming from irritated nerves just under the skin, rather than from the joint itself. A series of small, shallow injections is placed along the affected nerve to calm the irritation and support healing. It’s often used for burning, stinging, or neuropathic pain that hasn’t responded to treatments aimed at the joint. Bendavid Clinic offers it in Burlington, Vermont.
